We are delighted to announce that we have raised enough money to fund a new ambulance for the branch! This means that we no longer rely on the assistance (and availability) of ambulances from other branches.

We raised over €45,000 some of this was used to part-fund the purchase and conversion of an ambulance, with the balance provided by Irish Red Cross Head Office. The remaining funds will be used to fit out the ambulance with supplies, oxygen equipment, a defibrillator, stretchers, vacuum packs, masks, helmets...the list goes on!

If you wish to make a personal donation, you can make a lodgement to our fundraising account: Details to follow.....

Race Night in Celbridge

Clane Red Cross held their first Fundraising event in support of their Ambulance Appeal on Thursday April 17th in the Kildrought Lounge, Celbridge. Highlights of the night included the presentation by Mr. Ted Murray of Clane Local Development of the €5,000 sponsorship of the Ambulance for which we are very grateful. We were also treated to tips for Punchestown from the professionals.

County Councillor Brendan Weld, one of our kind sponsors, was in attenance on the night, and the night was one of great fun and many winners! Prizes ranged from cash and wine to vouchers for both Finnstown House and Carton House.

The Race night has raised over €6,000 so far, and the money is still coming in!

Many thanks to all of our sponsors!

Clane Community Council becomes a Major Sponsor

Clane Community Council have kicked off the fundraising efforts for Clane Red Cross Ambulance Appeal. A Cheque for 5,000 was presented to Red Cross Treasurer John Delaney from Community Council Treasurer, John Power in a presentation at the Abbey on Friday 29th February. The event was also attended by Paul Carroll, Chairman of The Community Council, who wished Clane Red Cross the best of luck with their fundraising efforts. At the event, Rosemarie Hayden, Unit Officer and course instructor with the local Red Cross provided a demonstration of CPR and a defibrillator to all present.

Clane Red Cross is fundraising to purchase an ambulance for use on duties across North County Kildare. They now have twenty-five members trained to a high level and the demand for these volunteers. services across the north of the county has been increasing in recent years. As there is no Red Cross ambulance in Clane, the members borrow one from Kildare Red Cross if they can. This is not always possible and as a result, many duties are not covered. Both the Community Council and the Red Cross have long histories of public service within Clane. The Council has played a major part in keeping community spirit alive and kicking in Clane. Founded in 1973 to represent the community in its dealings with the Government and County Council, the organisation is responsible for the development of numerous social, economic and cultural activities in the village. Their initiatives have allowed all types of activities to flourish in Clane.

Clane Community Council has now become the main sponsor of the Clane Red Cross Ambulance and will have their name displayed on the ambulance when it is purchased. This donation has brought the ambulance fund to €11,500. A further €33,500 will be required to purchase and equip the vehicle. The aim of Clane Red Cross is to purchase the new ambulance in early 2009. There will be a number of fundraising events in the local community to raise the necessary funds over the coming months so keep your eye on local press. Anyone interested in assisting in some way or finding out more about Clane Red Cross can contact Rosemarie Hayden 087 2235278. www.claneredcross.org
